Road Reps Meeting Dec 05

Road Reps meeting, Monday, 12 December, 2005
Flat 2, Castle Hill at 8 pm

Present: M Bowers, R Richardson, P Rose, P Gautrey, R Cornelius, S Mather, J Webb, J Kyte, S di Caprio, T Baker, G Bridger, J Bridger, A Marriage, G Redpath, I Thurley, S Wright.

1. Apologies for absence: T Williams, N Casey, D Cornish, J Muggeridge, B Bromham

2. The Minutes of the meeting on 26 September, 2005 were taken as read.

3. Matters arising:
para 7, room has been found for all the market stalls in North Street
para 10, James Webb reported that the hedge obscuring his view is about to be trimmed.
para 12, the regrettable circumstances which caused the cycle proficiency test to be moved from High Pewley were explained. The school was forced to use the junction of Addison Road and Pewley Way.

4. Reports. PLANNING: Bob's file was available for those present to consult. Gordon said that the Turret House gain would permit money to be spent on the Pewley Down extension, a path from HT School to St Luke's and a suitable commemoration of Henry Peak.
EGRA: Jennie did not make an EGRA report.
WEB: Isabelle explained that the cost of the HTAG web site should soon be much less; she said members who access Amazon.com via the link on our website generate funds for HTAG. Would members please inform her when advertised articles are sold?
SOCIAL: Jean has reserved lunch + skittles for 25 members on Sunday, 5 Feb, 2006. It will cost £ 8.50 to £9 inc. Jean asked for names of those wishing to take part and drivers willing to give lifts. There will be a pumpkin growing competition in the New Year.

5. Monopole phone masts. The application to place a 3G Orange mast at Pewley Point has attracted vigorous opposition from local residents and Gordon has persuaded Orange to withdraw it to allow a meeting to be arranged with HTAG, council officers and residents at Millmead. A general discussion followed about the health risks posed by the radiation, loss of amenity for those living nearby, the risk of a large single mast on Pewley Down and the possibility of the other 4 companies applying for masts of their own. SJW will keep all concerned informed of developments.

6. Pewley Down and South Warren Farm. While members would welcome an addition to Pewley Down concern was again expressed about the consequences of a possible sale of the farm by GBC. Gordon said that whatever happened to the farm very tight restrictions would be imposed. Tamsy quoted the example of north Stoke Park which she thought the House of Lords had protected from development but the Spectrum was still built on it. SJW read out the draft of a letter which said that HTAG would like an extension to Pewley Down provided that an absolute guarantee against the development of South Warren farm was given. This appeared to summarise the general opinion.

7. Forresters pub. The pub has temporarily closed. The latest landlord has not been as successful at running the pub as originally hoped. The next coffee morning will take place in Addison Court on 29 December.

8. The new arrangements for the AGM were welcomed; they will be tried again next year. Nevertheless members felt the meeting went on for too long.

9. Carol singing. SJW and Jean will work out a route to include The Guildford Arms and The Robin Hood. Jean suggested using cars to enable us to cover as much ground as possible.

10. The next Road Reps meeting will be on Monday 6 March, 2006. The deadline for copy for the newsletter will be Thursday, 23 Feb, 2006.

11. AOB.
(a) Sarah di Caprio reported that: Some extra parking for Addison Road residents is to be made available in the road and bays will be kept as dual purpose. PDCV is to have a grant of £2000 for educational materials and a new lockable shed from Sarah's County Council allocation. Up to 5 portable vehicle-activated speed signs are to be set up in central Guildford, one of which will be in our area on a regular basis; the possibility of setting up a 20 mph "speed limit" zone is to be investigated further. Safer routes for schools will be addressed at a Local Committee meeting in March.
(b) The boundaries of parking zone D and H are to be reviewed. Parking in South Hill on a Sunday leaves space for one way traffic some of which travels too fast.
(d) Ruth Richardson raised the difficulty of protecting trees especially when a house has been sold and the land is being prepared for development. Tree protection officers are either not available or are powerless to act.
(e) The railings at the corner of Jenner Road by Trinity Gate cause concern. Gordon will investigate.

The Chairman thanked Jean and Gina for the mulled wine and mince pies served between items 5 and 6. The meeting ended at 10 pm.
