Pilates Information

WHAT IS PILATES?

"Pilates is an intelligent form of exercise that strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture, provides flexibility and balance and unites the body and mind. Pilates is good for all ages and fitness levels, excellent for injury prevention as well as rehabilitation".

ABOUT SOPHY GRIFFITHS

Sophy Griffiths grew up in Guildford. She first took up Pilates 15 years ago, when she was training to be a trapeze artist. She worked in this field for 12 years, during which she co-founded Momentary Fusion, an aerial dance company (www.infinito.demon.co.uk/) which toured nationally and internationally for 7 years. Although her personal practise was more strongly in Iyengar Yoga, she trained as a Pilates teacher in 2001, and has been teaching ever since. She currently works in London at the Telegraph and is setting up holidays abroad (www.sopilates.com). She opened "Transverse studio" in November 2003 as an intimate space for classes of 4. Her experience and training includes antenatal and postnatal as well as remedial Pilates.

TSUNAMI APPEAL

One of the reasons Sophy is particularly passionate about giving a third of the money to this cause is her dear friend, Nicola Medlik, resident in Guildford, JUST survived with her partner and two friends! They were on the beach in Sri Lanka when the wave came in. Nicola was responsible for the design and graphics of the poster.
