Mount Alvernia Hospital
| |
A meeting was held for residents on Tuesday to hear the new management's plans for Mt Alvernia. New equipment,
eg MRI and CT scanners, will be installed but the focus of the Hospital will remain the same. There seems
little prospect of easing the traffic problem unless more use is made of public transport. It is not expected
that the hospital will expand further into the surrounding residential area. The Runnymede and Chertsey
hospital is the nearest hospital also owned by BMI Health Care.

Harvey Gallery Exhibition Updates
| |
The Harvey Gallery came into being in September 1979, the brainchild of the then Head of the Visual Arts Department. Initial
funding came from the Adult Education Centre, whose Principal saw the potential of a student-run, student-supported
gallery. It was created with the assistance of students and staff alike. Since that time The Gallery has held 15
exhibitions each year, covering a wide variety of visual arts. It very early earned a reputation for innovation,
actively encouraging first-time exhibitors, as well as practising artists. To find out about forthcoming
exhibitions visit our
Societies pages.

| Planning
| |
A particular issue is the extent to which Guildford is allowed, or encouraged, to expand. We believe that most
members accept a natural growth in line with the national average but do not want a disproportionate expansion
to give Guildford a more dominating role in the SE. This would spoil the character and quality of the town.
Currently we are considering the Town Centre Action plan. This is important to us as it will include some
of the HTAG area, and the town centre provides most of our amenities - including our "local" shopping. To
read on visit our
Planning pages. Or read the latest Newsletter on our
Newsletters pages.
