Tyting Farm
| |
Tyting Farm is an absolutely crucial part of the landscape of the North Downs. It forms the setting for St
Martha's Hill and is an integral part of the swathe of agricultural landscape which stretches from Pewley Downs,
Guildford to Newlands Corner and beyond to the east. It is arguably the most walked and visited open
space in Surrey and is Guildford's premier open space. Guildford Borough Council is intending to sell a
key part, Tyting Farm, in six lots at prices to exclude agricultural use. The buyers and users are likely
to be urban not agricultural. With the farm broken up and fragmented to urban owners the landscape is
likely to be destroyed. For more information go to our
Features pages, or visit
their website.

| FOSL - Friends of The Spike Lottery
| |
Charlotteville Jubilee Trust want to thank you very much for having bought a lottery ticket from them last year.
With your support they raised £802. This month draws the FOSL year to a close. They are raising funds
for the conversion of the Vagrants Ward, the SPIKE, into a Community and Heritage centre. 2005 was a very
successful year for them as they were awarded £
1.2 million by the Heritage Lottery Fund and work is due to start soon. However, they still need to raise £35K
and are counting on your continued support. Any money they raise this year will be match-funded by the Heritage
Lottery Fund by 75 per cent. They regret if your ticket did not come up for a prize but 2006 may be your lucky year.
Will you remain a Friend of the Spike and buy another FOSL? Click
here to print out a FOSL form for this year.
Please do support them. For information on FOSL prizes and news about the SPIKE, visit

TCAAP - Definition of Town Centre Boundary.
| |
The meeting will be at 10.00 am on Monday 16 January, at Millmead. So far there are about 6 HTAG members planning
to go, but there will be room for Road Reps from the areas under threat who want to attend. Please let Bob Bromham
know so that he can give final numbers to the Officer. We perhaps need to consider where we believe the Town Centre
boundary should be. It would appear that if the town centre is defined in accordance with PPS6 then the existing
boundary for the HTAG area would be Quarry Street. as far as the Castle Arch, Castle Street, Sydenham Rd. (North side
only) and Epsom Road. (North side only) as far as the end of the shops. (This is close to the "option 4", which is
the smallest of the 4 options, but even this included portions of the residential roads closest to the town.)
I think that the HTAG view is that this should remain the boundary, and that there is no need or justification
to push it out any further. If anyone wants copies of the 4 boundary options that were "consulted" on in June
please let Bob know. You can contact him via
this site.
