Herald Players Information

Dear Theatregoer

Grapes and Raisins

Who says you're past it at 65? Not Lawrence Roman, the American writer whose play Grapes and Raisins has its first British amateur production at the Electric Theatre in November. Older Herald Players, normally relegated to roles as crotchety grandpas and vague spinsters, suddenly find themselves playing romantic leads! Director Anne Leggett, impressed by a professional production of the play, tracked down the playwright (who has scripted films for John Wayne and Sidney Poitier as well as the Broadway smash hit Under the Yum Yum Tree - also filmed with Jack Lemmon) at his California home and persuaded him to let the group put it on. "The play has heart," she says. "It's witty and wise, and proves that wrinkles can be wromantic!"

The one-line jokes are superb, the comic action hits the heights of slick farce, yet the play has wonderful moments of great tenderness, very human warmth and even a dash or two of sadness, so the mix is far from saccharin.

We guarantee that you will have a thoroughly entertaining evening watching our show.

Grapes and Raisins is at the Electric Theatre, Guildford, 10th to 13th November.

Tickets (8) from the Box Office : 01483 444789.

Yours faithfully
