Harvey Gallery Silver Jubilee

The Harvey Road Gallery was established in 1979 by students and staff of what was then called The Visual Arts Centre, which was part of Guildford Adult Education Institute. Since then, it has provided an important arts facility for Guildford by showing the work of professionals, amateurs, students and community groups. Now called Harvey Gallery and part of the Adult Learning Centre, it has come to represent how a much needed larger centre for the arts might function, and serve this important town.

We are celebrating the 25 years with the following FREE events:

A MEMORABILIA MONTAGE OF RELICS FROM EARLY YEARS
Monday 15 to Friday 19 November
(Officially opened by Cllr Keith Taylor, Mayor of Guildford, Monday 15 November at 7.00 pm)

An OPEN PUBLIC DISCUSSION
Photography and Painting: Which is the True Art?
Thursday 18 November 7.30 to 9.00 pm

The panel of professionals who will initiate the open discussion will exhibit examples of their work which illustrate the position they take in this now ancient, but still relevant, argument.

Peter Slade, scientist and keen photographer, will be in the chair. Six artists and/or photographers have been invited to lead the discussion. We hope that many others will attend and give their own, robust contribution.

THE PANEL:
Brian Dunce: Painter, draughtsman, lecturer;
John Freeman: Painter, print maker, lecturer;
Anna Fox: Photographer, lecturer;
Robin Grierson: Photographer;
Keith Reynolds: Lens-based artist, lecturer;
Howard Romp: Painter, maker in other media.

Anyone interested in Visual Art, including photographers and painters, is invited to the exhibition and, especially, the debate.
