 | Guildford Archaeology and Local History Group
A society for anyone interested in local history and archaeology in the Guildford area is being re-launched by Guildford Museum
and the Surrey Archaeological Society. The 'Guildford Group' of the Surrey Archaeological Society is over 30 years old and is
being re-launched to attract a wider audience. You do not have to be a member of the Surrey Arch.Soc. (SAS) to join the Guildford Group.
The first meeting is on Monday 12th September at 7.30 at the URC, Portsmouth Road. The subject is recent landscape detective
work at Holmbury Hill Iron Age Hill Fort.
Entry is free to members, 2 for visitors: you can join on the night.
The society meets monthly with alternate lectures at the URC and informal sessions at Guildford Museum. Social evenings and
outdoor events are also arranged.
If you do join the SAS you will have access to an unrivalled library of books on local and general archaeology and local history.
So if you are interested in family history, flints, farming, fine architecture, even ancient flora and fauna you will find books
for you.
The headquarters of the Society are at Castle Arch, with the Museum.
