Great Dane Adoption Society Information

The Lincolnshire Great Dane Adoption Society was formed on 1 January 2000. They have a fast growing network of Home Checkers, Drivers and Foster Homes. When a Dane comes to the Society it is assessed for health and behaviour problems. If the dog appears to be in good physical and mental condition it may go to one of their Foster Homes to be cared for until they have a suitable permanent home. Their homes are "home checked" and sometimes veterinary references are taken. Any problem dogs stay with the Dog Adoption Officer where they are properly assessed and helped to overcome their problems before being re-homed.

Some owners prefer to bring their dogs to the Society whilst others prefer their dogs to be collected. This is where the drivers are invaluable. They have been known to collect Danes from Ireland, Scotland and Wales, all to come to Lincolnshire. They re-home all the Great Danes for Battersea Dogs Home and have taken Danes from the R.S.P.C.A. They are recognized by the Midland and West Great Dane Club and Pennine Great Dane Club. They have never refused to help a Great Dane in need!

The Society has over 500 members who receive their newsletter, "The Slobber Rag", three times a year as well as getting invited to various functions throughout the year. In the first two years they took in 240 dogs, 228 being Danes. To date, the Society has re-homed in excess of 550 Great Danes.
