HTAG Annual Subscriptions
Thank you to the majority of HTAG residents who regularly pay their £2.00 annual subscription. HTAG Volunteers work tirelessly on your behalf throughout the year to monitor planning, to preserve your environment, and to encourage and maintain a sense of community in the Ward of Holy Trinity by organising various events throughout the year (see the Newsletters section on this website for details). This £2.00 annual subscription is extremely good value for money, and any surplus is used for the benefit of our Seniors in the community. For those few who declined to subscribe we would like to say: - you may feel that you do not notice our presence in your community, but you would most certainly notice our absence!

Little did we know then that we would still be going strong ten years later." To read on click here. To visit the Country Walks Website click here.

Charlotteville Pancake Race

The following letter was received from Wayne Moulds, Watch Commander, Guildford Blue Watch (Fire Brigade). "Thank you very much for spending the time to send me the photo's from the pancake race day. I can speak for my whole crew when I say that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and hope that we helped in some small way, even if it was to make a spectacle of ourselves. Add to that the bonus of winning a prize of course, which was not something we had in mind hence the wearing of full fire kit and breathing apparatus! Still, once the competitive spirit kicks in........ Thanks again for the photos, and I hope the day was a success for your cause. Please let me know if we can help again."

Ticket prices are £10.00. Please call Gina on 533448. Please do try to come.

National Cycle Route 22
A cycle path across the Downs could be part of National Cycle Route 22. There are several bridle paths marked on the map along which cyclists have a right of way. The path linking Pewley Hill and Longdown Road has already been ear-marked as the preferred route. It is standard practice to lay down a hard core if the surface is infirm so we may have a stretch of crushed limestone across the top of the Downs. HTAG was not consulted when the route was being discussed but we may be asked for a view later; if you haven't already done so please let me have your opinion.

Charlotteville Pancake Race

"Well Done to the Charlotteville Jubilee Trust for hosting this fantastic event. "Tossing Monitors" were out in force to confirm that the "Police Cheated" as reported on Meridian TV. A very closely run match as the steel toe capped boots pounded the cobbles in the relay race, but one of the Police Pancakes did not complete the 360 degree toss and they were disqualified. Tony Scott of Guilfest cooked the pancakes that were served to one and all. Great fun was had by all and the event was hailed a tremendous success. Children from Sandfield County Primary school had been practicising with ballet shoes and bean bags on tennis rackets for this lively race. What stars they were and every child competing received a book from Ottakars and the school was given a fabulous volume by Cheryl Mendham, Manageress of Ottakars. Shoppers joined the partaking Offices, Firms and Stores to win wonderful prizes. Barclays had donated a £50 voucher for a pair of running shoes won by Andrew, and Gerrard donated a DVD player. With Homebase, RSVP, and Tudor Rose Restaurant among many sponsors for this event, it was bound to be a success. The Spike Project will certainly held the interest of many more people now." Gina Redpath. To see more photos of the day click here and go to the Events Gallery.

Pilates Workshop to raise money for victims of the Tsunami
The Pilates Day was a great success, and here are a couple of quotes from the day which may perhaps encourage people to sign up for the Pilates holiday: "I enjoyed the day so much. The approach to getting the body trim was non stressful but every muscle was worked and stretched. You were a super teacher; you explained things so well I didn't have to look at what you were doing!" - Tamsy Baker.
"Many thanks for conducting the wonderful Pilates workshop. It has certainly heightened my understanding of the work. If you do intend to conduct any further workshop or class in Guildford, do let me know as I would love to attend." - Shirley Ting.
Sophy is running a springtime pilates holiday in Spain at the end of April. For more information please check Sophy's website. Please note this site is still under construction. If you cannot access the website please contact Sophy on 07905 327634.

Tree Preservation Orders
Thirty years ago HTAG applied for a number of TPOs, eg round Mount Alvernia, which has enabled us to enjoy large trees in the landscape ever since. Some road reps and others are now hoping to make a new application for TPOs. They may be made by the planning authority when the removal of trees would harm the local environment and reduce the enjoyment of the public. See www.odpm.gov.uk. TPOs are only considered when the tree is visible from a public space eg a road or footpath. If any householder thinks that a TPO is needed for a tree on their land, please contact Anne Wright on 564021.

Pewley Down Volunteers
We continue to meet every first Saturday in the month from 10 am to cut back the scrub. It is more energetic than going to the gym, but much more sociable, and we are well supported by our ranger, Bryan Parnell. Three valiant brush cutters have been trained by the Downlands Project and work seriously hard under GBC insurance. Due to their work we should notice an increase in the number of flowers in Spring. In December we discovered the egg of a Brown Hairstreak butterfly in the Blackthorn hedge. This is a Species of Conservation Concern and our find will go down in the records, as one has never been seen in this part of Surrey before. For those who prefer to be active after dark the AGM will be 7.30 pm at the Guildford Institute on Wednesday 13 April, and Adam Owen, Trees and Countryside Manager for Guildford, will speak.

HTAG Music Evening
The latest music evening was a great success thanks to the generous hospitality of David and Mary Howard and the enthusiastic and talented support of HTAG musicians. We are particularly lucky to have accompanists Bob, Joyce and Steven who help us rehearse and are "on stage" most of the evening. We heard some new, promising young musicians and welcomed the support of several people who came along to listen.
